Houston Fashion Moguls revealed the latest 2014 Fall trends at the Elaine Turner boutique in Rice Village for a fashion forward discussion hosted by Fashion Group International. The evening’s chic panelists included designers Elaine Turner and Chloe Dao as well as makeup artist Aubrie Layne.
With witty banter and clever one-liners, the warmth and genuine friendship among the local fashion gurus was evident. As the wall between speaker and audience slowly came down, I felt as though I was in a room with a group of friends chatting about our shared love of fashion.
Here’s a quick rundown of trends for Fall 2014:
- Layers. A myriad of Layers.
- Mushroom Grey. Any shade of Grey. (Insert “50 Shades” joke here)
- Sweaters with animals on them, still okay.
- Bright make-up colors such as coral or turquiose with a matte finish.
- Ponchos are back.
- Chunky heels.
- Fold-over purses.
FGI is a nonprofit that connects and supports professionals in the fashion industry. Whenever I run into an aspiring designer or boutique owner, I immediately suggest they join FGI. The organization is filled with helpful mentors and friendly peers, a far departure from the typical dog-eat-dog world of the fashion industry.
