The Shoe Every Fashionista Needs This Spring

I’m baaaaaack…after a not-so-brief hiatus from blogging, I’ve been inspired to return to writing. This includes sharing my love for the art of fashion, travel, and food via the internet. So let’s jump into this, shall we.

The fashion gods have graced us with one of the most comfortable, yet contemporary trends this season: The Mule. The Mule first made its appearance in Ancient Rome, known then as Mulleus calceus. These red or purple shoes were adorned by the three highest magistrates in Rome. Apparently, those chic-ass Romans knew how to rock a statement piece. I’m still awaiting the toga trend to take off. Most recently, Mules made a comeback when they appeared all over runways last Fall, thanks Gucci. Flash forward to Spring 2017, and we have an accessible trend our feet thank us for.

Here are a few of my favorite, drool-worthy Mules that will make you feel like Roman royalty.

ASOS Sloany Heeled Mules, $40.

MANGO Wooden Leather Sandal, $69.99. 10% off if you sign-up for the newsletter.

Splurge alert: NET-A-PORTER Jimmy Choo Myla Studded Leather Mules, $675.

Zara High Heel Mules with Pompoms, $69.90.

Nordstrom Loeffler Randall Lulu Block Heel Mule, $350. Dupe found at Forever 21, $24.90.

Fashion X Austin and Bernina Present BLANC

M.V.C.C. Austin

‘Tis the season to shop. With the spirit of the holidays among us, Fashion X Austin and Bernina presented BLANC, an event filled with stunning fashion presentations and pop-up shops to kick-off an early holiday shopping experience. With delicately hung lights that sparkled like stars, Fair Market was transformed into an intimate showroom of Texas-based designers, boutiques, and artisans.  Fashion presentations included Mysterious by NPN, Rare Trends, Wildflowers Boutique, Adrenne Yunger, and more. Between showcases, guests were invited to browse collections and sample unique products. The event closed with the crowning of the Bernina Blanc Design Challenge winner. Challenge hopefuls were asked to design a look that was primarily white inspired by the Swiss Alps. The fan vote winner went to the talented Venny Etienne for his regal two piece ensemble with geometric cutouts. The grand prize winner went to designer-on-the-rise Neil Marek for his beautifully matched crop-top and pants combo decked with a refined vest that draped to the floor. The entire evening celebrated local designers and inspired our winter wardrobes.

Special thanks to my photographer of the night, Myke B. The Label.
